:new: Still a plenty of room for articles if you interested! Please drop a note to CRLiterature ASAP :D

Hello all!

In the first week of March (4th-10th), we are hosting a week at projecteducate based on poetry forms. During this week, we would like to invite members of the community to come write informative/ educational articles to contribute to this week.

You can write articles:

- About specific poetry forms (with featured examples)
- "How to" guides on writing specific forms.
- Interviews with dA poets who focus on specific forms
- Art features (i.e. A collection of concrete poetry)
- Famous form poems/poets
- Workshops/ Prompts/ contests based on a form

These are just suggestions!

If you are interested in writing an article, please drop a note entitled "PE Week" to CRLiterature with an outline of what you intend to write. We are planning this in advance; giving you the chance for you to draft an article- which we are more than happy to review prior to the PE week! We will also arrange a day for you to submit your article and provide all information on how to submit on behalf of projecteducate

Back in September, we had a wonderful response for Art History, and we'd love the same level again!

Thank you!

(Prose Writers, Script Writers and Nonfiction Writers- a PE for you will be coming later in the year!)

What we have so far...

These are the wonderful people who have offered their time for an article so far. If the subject you wanted to write about is already covered- why not contact the person below and offer to collaborate?

I would like to write about lyrics, even though it is my forte, I'm sure it would be in better interests to call up Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, or Lady Gaga, lols.

But it sounds like this is gonna be awesome.

May I suggest a piece on the use of dictionaries and thesauruses? As to how to use them properly in order to avoid repetition. Seems to be the bane of poets when beginning to write.

repetitive use of certain words is not always banal. Humpty Dumpty had a thing, or maybe two, to say about that as I recall.

Of course they are not always the bane. But, when they are not, it is because the repetition was purposeful and not "just because". When you think of it, repetition, when done correctly, is a good thing (especially in certain forms of poetry). Yet, when it is done out of lack of word choice, that is a completely different scenario.

the repeated cliche you speak of? to argue against us both for a moment: "usage of repetition is how cliches begin. therefore repetition should be avoided altogether." this is how it was said to me years ago. I countered with "avoid all hard-fast rules" which I had just been taught. the result was not pretty, rhythmical, or melodic; but was quite amusing.

Interesting. Then, can we think of the subject as such; repetition has its time and its place. How does that sound?

it occurs to me that if I answer you by restating your statement,
since I agree with you, I could be guilty of excessive repetition

(ooooo! that's a good one! say it out loud and listen to it!)

I see small inner-rhymes just filling up the reply. I like it!

Hi Becca-girl!

I'm so honored to be chosen and partnered with *moyanII to participate in the Haiku & Eastern form of poetry for the project - thank you again. <3

Does found poetry count as a form? I'd love to do a feature on that and hopefully get some words from the artists on how they choose their words or their thoughts on found poetry as a whole.

Is there anything else we can do to help besides write an article on a specific form? ( since free form is already taken). Are there articles on general aspects or principals of poetry that might be useful?

I begged `KathrynODriscoll to let me help her. :). But you're right, there are many potential subjects: short verse, experimentalism, typographical, etc.

Why do you think you are horrible at them?

Because I struggle with the constraints most traditional fixed forms offer, especially if there is rhyme involved - and by struggle, I mean I write a line every hour or so if I'm lucky. :B

You keep on saying that. All you have to do to fix that, Your Awesomeness, is write three or four bad poems in 5 or 6 forms. Then the next one you write will be awesome, and you will no longer have a hangup on form. *grin*

I'm honestly not that worried about it. Focusing more on strengthening my prose at this point, but I'll take you up on it if I ever get serious about forms. :)

You know, I don't see anything about horuku and scifaiku as genres on dA... like written articles. I can write an article about the two of those as an offshoot of modern haiku :D :D :D I have articles and things I can link people to, also. It's this glorious dorky thing I know about >.>
